17/12/15 - Maths


  • Be able to draw a tree diagram
  • Use tree diagrams to answer probability problems
  • Be confident answering questions on sequences and series

  • Start work on assignment 2, task 1. 

Today I learnt about probability and had a recap on series and sequences. A strength is that I managed to understand all of the probability. To improve, I would like to have made a few more notes.

11/12/15 - Assignment three

Today I learnt about the creating side of assignment three. I managed to finish the logo that I am pleased with and I have started the web banner. The logo will be included in with it as I stated in with my design however I am looking into adding some more.

An advantage of today is that I have learnt about Illustrator and now I feel more confident when using it. To improve, I would have liked to get all of the images for the logo into a format however at the moment my priority is to do the designs and get the screenshots in the document. 

Overall today I have quite a bit of progress and my skills of Illustrator have improved. I will aim to get some re submissions done over the weekend so I do not have to think about those.

Today we learnt about the final bit of assignment two that is about any improvements that can be made for the designs. We did a peer review of another persons work to get back feedback. I found this quite interesting seeing other peoples creative ideas and also getting feedback about my own work.

A strength of today is that I will be able to get all of assignment two done today as I have nearly finished it. All I have left to do is to write about the ethical and legal considerations and talk about the final idea. To improve, I would have liked to get more done at home but I ran out of time yesterday.

Overall today has been very interesting and productive and I have done quite a bit of work. I will be easily meeting the A2 deadline and I will be able to submit it tonight.

Aim: To consider the impact of British Laws upon designers

  • Explain about could have been better about A1

Today I have learnt about the last part of assignment two and what is needed for it. This part is about the legal and ethical laws of designing. There are a lot of different things that need to be taken into consideration when designing logos.

A strength of today is that I have managed to get all of the ideas designed for assignment two and I have started to write about them. I only have one left to write about then I need to do the laws of designing. I should be able to get all of the work done in time for the deadline so I do not have to worry about that. To improve, I would have liked to have finished off the writing however I kept noticing changes I could make with my plans.

Overall today has been very productive and I have managed to get a lot done. I also found out about using Pinterest that was interesting as there are a lot of ideas there.

04/12/15 - Careers Tech day

Aim: To develop your ideas for A2.

* Include creative inspiration in your Blog

Today was the Careers Tech day and I have learnt about the different professions like IT Technician, apprentice web designer and the solutions manager. I found them all interesting as I am aiming for an apprenticeship in the technician area. 

A strength of today is that I have finished all of my designs for the three different keywords and I have started writing about them. To improve, I would have liked to draw out some of my ideas for the logos however I ran out of time so I will do a bit over the weekend. 

The creative image for today is the sketches that I have done on professional. I mainly looked at logos however I did look at other parts like companies and ideas. 
    

Overall today has been very useful and I managed to learn a lot from the talks. Hearing about the apprenticeship made me more interested and I am looking forward to hopefully getting one.

03/12/15 - Assignment two/Maths

  • Explore what A2 criteria means
  • Start generating ideas that fulfil your brief

Today I have learnt about the criteria of assignment two. This is the brief and all of the ideas that we have for the creation. I have managed to finish my first mood board and I have moved onto another one. I will be sketching the designs and there will be three different ideas for all of them.

A strength of today is that I have managed to get the target audience and the first mood board done and I have started the second. To improve, I would have liked to get the mood board done a bit faster however it takes time to organize them all.

Overall today has been very useful and I have learnt about all of the criteria that is needed for the merit. I also enjoyed doing the Kahoot quiz as well as it is fun to do a quiz by using a smartphone.

Today I learnt about arthmetic and geometric equations. I did struggle a little bit at the start but once doing some examples I understood it. A strength is that I managed to understand it all and make notes and to improve I would have liked to make some more clearer notes on it so I could refer back to it easier.

30/11/15 - Assignement two

Investigate the best logo, interactive website and visually interest website
Investigate different creative methods for exploring key terms
Complete A1, proof read and submit A1

Today I learnt about assignment two and the brief that needs to be written for it. For the assignment a web banner, logo graphic, animation, rollover button and a navigation bar will need to be planned out then created in assignment three. I have decided to mainly make mood boards for the ideas as I find them the most interesting.

A strength of today is that I have managed to get up to the mood boards part in the brief however I have no started them yet. I want to finish off assignment one before I move onto designing the mood boards as that is due in for Wednesday. To improve, I would have liked to started on the mood boards and create the Photoshop documents for them however I ran out of time.

Overall today has been very productive and I have learnt a lot. There is quite a bit for assignment two however it should be enjoyable to start planning out ideas for the designs.

27/11/15 - Colour theory

Aim: Investigate the other parts of interactive media theory and terminology

  • Write a report covering the key terms related to the theory of graphics for interactive media
  • Explain the link between theory and industry practice


Today I have learnt all about colour theory such as what it is and all the different key words for it. I never knew there was so much depth into all of the theory as before I only knew a little about RGB and CMYK.

A strength of today is that I have managed to finish off the first part of assignment one and I have started the second half. I will be able to finish it off in time as there is quite a bit of time left. To improve, I would have liked to wrote in what is needed for the second part so I can go along and write it in.

Overall I have found today very productive and interesting and I have managed to get quite a bit done. The colour theory will be helpful when designing for the next assignment as that is the designing part.

Today I learnt about the second part of assignment one. The second part has quite a lot to do however some of it is the same as the unit last year so I can use it for this unit. 

A strength of today is that I have managed to nearly finish the whole of the first part of assignment one. I only have a couple left to do then I have to do the second part. To improve, I would have liked to laid out the second part so I could know how much I have left.

Overall today has been productive and I have done quite a lot. I will be aiming to finish off the first part tomorrow and I should be on time to finish all of the work.

Today we moved onto the new unit that is about Digital Graphics. I have learnt about all of the criteria about the first part of assignment one. This first unit is the theory part and it does seem like there is a lot there. 

A strength of today is that I have started assignment one and I have laid out the first part. A weakness of today is that is that my notes are not as neat as I wanted. To improve on this, I would use a different notes method than a mind map. This is because there is not too much space to write in. 

Overall today has been quite interesting however the part where we had to make flow diagrams I did not enjoy too much as I prefer learning from the board and making notes instead of everyone writing the parts, sharing it and making notes on it.

Today I learnt about D2 of assignment 4 however I am not aiming for distinction so I worked on my re submissions. We did not have long working today as we had a talk sex education in the second lesson. I found it quite interesting and I learnt a lot. 

In maths, I learnt about sequences, series and nth terms. I remember doing the nth term in high school and I could remember most of it so I understood this lesson. A strength of today is that I managed to understand all of the maths and I managed to nearly finish a resubmission. To improve, I would have liked to finish it however we only had limited time today.

09/11/15 - Assignment four

Aim: To document the HCIs created

To create a document with basic information on the design and development of HCIs
To create a well structured document explaining the design and development of HCIs

Today I learnt about assignment four and what we need to do for it. The first task is a pass and it is putting together the whole design process. This was quite a simple task as it is mainly copying work from other assignments. 

An advantage of today is that I have managed to finish the pass criteria so all I have left to do for now is the re submissions. As task two is distinction I do not need to do it as I am aiming for a merit in this unit. To improve, I would have liked to finish off the re submission however I ran out of time. 

Overall today has been productive and I have managed to finish off task one and most of the A1 re submission

06/11/15 - Assignment three

Today I have carried on working on assignment three. Today I learnt about the merit for assignment three and what was needed. This bit was about quantitative and qualitative  measures of effectiveness.

An advantage of today is that I managed to get the merit done and I have done most of the pass.All I need to do now is to finish writing the creation log and then submit it. I am pleased that I have managed to get the merit done today as I thought it would take a lot longer. To improve, I would have wanted to get a bit more done on the pass however it takes a bit of time organizing all of the screenshots.

Overall today has been very productive and I will be able to submit all of the work later today.

05/11/15 - Testing website

Today I have learnt about testing the order form for assignment three task two. I did have some issues with the order form beforehand so I had to fix them while testing the form. The main issue was the PHP document not submitting however I managed to fix it by changing the variables. 

An advantage of today is that I have managed to finish off the testing and I have started work on writing about the creation process. The process document should not take too long to do so I should be on time to finish the work. To improve, I would have liked to add figures to all of the images so I can easily write in all of the information.

02/11/15 - Assignment three

Aim: To create an input and output HCI

To create at least one input and output HCI
To create some information to document the creation process
To create information to show how the HCI works

Today I learnt about what is required for assignment three. For this we need to make an order form using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. I have managed to finish the order form and I have learnt about using tables with forms. 

A strength of today is that I have managed to finish the page however I have not fully managed to work out the calculations yet. I will try and work it out over the next two days however it is quite confusing. To improve, I would have liked to lay out all of the screenshots in the development document however I wanted to get the page done.

Overall today has been quite productive and I have learnt more about forms. I would have liked to get the JavaScript working however I ran out of time.

Today I carried on working on assignment two. Today I have learnt more about the program Pencil however I have finished my designs now so I should not need to use it anymore. It is a useful program for designing GUI's and it would have been very useful when making the website layout.

A strength of today is that I have managed to get all of my designs done and I have done most of the merit for it. I still have to finish writing about the principles and then I will be done. It is in for Monday now so that should be more than enough time to get it all done. To improve, I would have liked to do more of task one however I ran out of time.

Please find below the objectives for today's lesson.
Maths aims:

Explore matrix transformations.
Recognise different transformation matrices.
Understand the definition of a map and a graph.
Construct a matrix form a graph.
Know why graphs are useful.

Today I learnt about different matrix transformations and making graphs from it. It was quite confusing at the start however now I understand it a lot more. The multiplying was confusing but in the end I managed to work it out and it was a lot more simpler than I expected. 

An advantage of today is that I have managed to start my assignment two task two work. This is the design of the interface and I managed to design most of it. I have two more parts to design then I have to write about it that should not take too much time. To improve, I would have liked to laid out every part of the app so I can go a long and fill in each part easily.

Today I have learnt about assignment two and what is needed for it. In this assignment it is all about the principles of interface design. I never knew that there was so many different elements needed for designing an interface. It does seem like there is a lot of work to do for it however it is a pass criteria so I do not have to go into a lot of detail.

A strength of today is that I have managed to finish the first section of assignment two and I have started the second one. I will do some more tomorrow so I can be on track to finish it on time. To improve, I would have liked to add in more images to show example of what each bit is.

Overall today has been very interesting and I have managed to get a  good amount of work done.

Today I carried on working on assignment one and in the end I managed to finish it. Today I learnt about Evolus Pencil that is the program we are using to design the GUI for assignment two. I found the program quite easy to use however I will have to play around to understand all the features. 

An advantage of today is that I have managed to finish assignment one and I have started on my re-submission for assignment two. To improve, I would have liked to finish assignment two re-submission however I ran out of time. It is in for the 19th so I will finish it over the weekend.

Overall today has been very interesting learning about Evolus Pencil and I'm pleased that I managed to finish assignment one today. I have only gone for pass on this as I am aiming for a merit in this assignment.

15/10/15 - Assignment one

Today I have learnt more about the different parts that HCI has affected. I was working on assignment one today and I have managed to finish the society part of it and I have also started the economy part. I should be able to finish the work on time. 

An advantage of today is that I have managed to get most of task one done. I do not think I will be going for the distinction in this unit as it is quite confusing. To improve, I would have liked to get more of economy done however it takes a while to understand all of the information then write about it. 

Be able to add, subtract and multiply matrices confidently.
Recognise the Identity and a transpose matrix.
Recall how to find the inverse of a matrix.
Practice solving simultaneous equations using matrix methods.
Explore matrix transformations.

Today I learnt about transforming images with matrices. An advantage of today is that I could remember most of ways of working out matrices and to improve, I would like to work on simultaneous equations. Overall today has been very productive and I have learnt a lot.

Today we started the new unit HCI (Human Computer Interaction) and learnt about the first assignment. I have learnt today about how it has developed and the different parts that it effects such as society, economy and culture. 

An advantage of today is that I have managed to get the first of task one done and I have started the second part. The book for this first assignment is very useful as it covers all of the parts of the assignment. To improve, I would have liked to made notes for each part so I know I can write about. 

Overall today has been very productive and I have learnt a lot today. I think that I will enjoy this unit and it does seem interesting so far.

09/10/2015 - Website testing

Today I continued to work on assignment four. This takes a lot of time to do however I have managed to get a large majority of it done. I have one more bit left and I will be finishing that over the weekend so I have only re submissions in the new unit.

A strength of today is that I have managed to get most of the testing done however I could not finish it all as it takes a while to get the screenshots then organize them in the document. To improve, I would have liked to added in the final tests so I know what I have to left to do. 

Overall today has been productive and I have managed to get a lot done. Over the weekend I will finish assignment four and make the changes I have on assignment one.

Create web pages showing a variety of types of good practice for scripting

Understand where simultaneous equations may be used.
Be able to find the inverse of a matrix.
Be able to solve simultaneous equations using matrices.
Use the matrix techniques we have learned to solve problems.

Today I learnt about assignment four and what I need to do for it. This is the testing of the website and improvements that can be made. I will only be doing task one as task two is distinction and I am not going for distinction in this unit. 

A strength of today is that I have started to create my testing document and I have done a few tests. The tests are quite easy to do however there are quite a lot of them and the screenshots take time to organize. To improve, I would have liked to added in all the tests I need to do so I can work down them one by one. 

Today I have learnt about working out simultaneous with matrices. A strength of today is that I managed to understand them in the end and to improve I would have liked to tried to do more equations. It was quite confusing at the start but then I found out what I was doing wrong and I managed to work it out.

Today I have been working on my website and I have nearly finished it. I learnt today about putting two lists together on the same line. I wanted to do this so I could have the game images next to the text so it is easily readable. 

An advantage of today is that I have managed to get nearly all of my website done. All I have left to do is to is finish my contact page and double check if everything is right. To improve, I would have liked to change my website plans on task one however I did not have enough time today. I also need to change my flowcharts as I decided not to do rollovers.

Overall today has been interesting and I have managed to do a lot and I should be on target to finish the assignment on time.

02/10/15 - Website design

Aim: Be able to create an interactive website

Create a website that uses CSS to control the layout of web pages

Create web pages showing at one type of example of good practice for scripting
Create web pages showing a variety of types of good practice for scripting

We carried working on our websites today. I was aiming to start designing the games pages as they would take the most time. From doing this, I have learnt about making images enlarge when the mouse goes over them. I have decided to do that over a rollover image as it is more interesting and makes the website more interactive. Below shows a part from my homepage.



A strength of today is that I managed to get my homepage complete with a carousel showing off some of the games and I worked out how to make the images clickable to go to a page. To improve, I would have liked to have got more images in and I would have liked to add in the text as I am not too sure how to do it. 

Overall today has been very interesting and I have learnt more about creating my website and adding in interactivity. I still need to add in one more JavaScript feature however that will be done later in the website.

25/09/15 - Boostrap

Aim: To design a website for a specified client

Create some ways of how CSS will control your layout

Create detailed ways of how CSS will control your layout
Understand how to make a responsive website

Today I have learnt about bootstrap and how it works. Bootstrap allows for a responsive website and it also offers many different ways to customize  a website. I found this interesting learning about all of the different things that you can do and I will try to use some in my website.

A strength of today is that I managed to get nearly all of my design done. I am only missing one flow diagram and the pseudo code as I am not sure about how I will write the scripts. To improve, I would have liked to have made the final flow chart however I ran out of time.

Overall today has been very interesting and I have learnt a lot about bootstrap. I also had a go at creating a bootstrap page and it worked so I understand what I am doing with it now.

Today I learnt about multiplying matrices. These were quite confusing at the start however once we started doing them I started to understand them more. I also learnt about inverse and transpose of a matrix that I never knew before.

A strength of today is that I finished off my page designs for the website. This will allow me to work on my website and start creating it in HTML. Another strength of today is that I managed to understand multiplying matrices so I should be fine when it comes to the test. To improve I would like to work on practicing the multiplying so I can do it without writing down the formula.

Overall today has been very interesting however it was quite confusing doing all of the matrices but I am learning now. I will look at the PDF that was shared so I can improve my understanding.

21/09/2015 - Assignment three

Aim: To be able to create website designs for a stated customer

Objectives: 

  • Understand the importance of the design process
  • Explain what documentation is require
  • Explain the purpose and create the navigational diagram for a stated website
  • Create the house style for a stated website
  • Create a screen design for a stated website

Today I learnt about assignment three and what is needed. Assignment three is the design of the website so we can design it later on. The design includes the purpose, house style, navigation diagram and designs for scripts. 

A strength of today is that I have managed to get most of my designs done so I have a good idea on how I will put it all together. I still need to design one page and then add them into the document. To improve, I would have liked to add in my pages as I go along then I could have written about them straight away.

Overall today has been very enjoyable and I have had fun planning my website and getting the design together. I hopefully will be able to do all of my designs as some of it could be a bit complicated. 


18/9/2015 - JavaScript

Aim - To be able to understand the fundamentals of JavaScript - improving functionality and how browsers interpret scripts

Objectives
Can create some simple interactive elements from given examples using JS scripts
List different ways that JS can be used to improve functionality
Can briefly explain some different ways that JS can be used to improve functionality
Can describe the advantages and disadvantages of JS interactive elements
Understand that not all browsers support client side languages
know at least one method of how browsers can interpret scripts

*Describe in detail the methods of interpreting scripts

Today I have learnt about the uses of scripting languages. I never knew that there were so many different ways they could be used. This is needed for merit work of assignment two. I have also further improved my JavaScript skills and I managed to finish the document with the JavaScript ideas. 

A strength of today is that I completed the sheet about JavaScript examples so if I wanted to use them later on in the unit, I can easily access them and add them into my website. To improve, I would have liked to make a bit more notes on the uses of scripting languages as I did not get all of it down. 

Overall today has been very interesting and I have learnt a lot from it. I never knew how many uses a scripting language has and all of the advantages and disadvantages of them.

17/9/2015 - Maths

Aim: To understand the fundamentals of scripting languages

Objectives:
All: list some of JavaScript constructs

Most: briefly explain some of the JavaScript constructs e.g. loops, making decisions, properties and methods.
Most: be able to work out practical examples involving JavaScript constructs with some help

Some: describe in detail some of the JavaScript constructs
Some: be able to work out practical examples involving JavaScript constructs without help

Today I have learnt more about JavaScript and I am getting more confident with it. We had some more activities today and they helped me to improve as I could write it and then check if it is the same as the answer. I understand functions more now and I can use them in programming. 

To improve, I would like to try out the different types of loops and a little bit more with functions. I found making the alert box and the prompt box quite useful as this could help me later in the assignment. I want to look at more code examples so I can do different things within the code. 

Overall today has been very interesting and I am starting to enjoy JavaScript more and I am now understanding it. I still need to improve on methods and loops however I am more confident than yesterday.

We started the new unit that is Mathematics for IT practitioners. We learnt about adding,subtracting and multiplying matrices. I never knew what matrices were but today I learnt what they are and how to do maths with them. In the end it was quite simple and I feel quite confident about multiplying them and subtracting them. I would like to improve on multiplying them as we did not have too much time on it.

14/9/2015 - JavaScript

Aim: To understand the fundamentals of scripting languages

Objectives:
All: Explain basic details about scripting languages e.g. uses in web pages, examples of languages, how to implement
All: Be able to list some characteristics of scripts
Most: Be able to understand and briefly explain what is meant by the following terms: object orientated, event handling, methods , implementing scripts, hiding scripts from older browsers, security issues      
Most: Be able to list some constructs of JavaScript
Some: Be able to understand and describe in detail what is meant by the following terms: object orientated, event handling, methods , implementing scripts , hiding scripts from older browsers, security issues  
Some: Describe some constructs of JavaScipt, including practical examples

Today we were focusing on learning about assignment two. This is based about scripting and I have never done scripting before so it is all new for me. We got to do some exercises so today I have been learning about JavaScript. We looked at loops and functions that were quite confusing however I am starting to understand it.

The part I would like to improve on today is the JavaScript functions as I got more confused on them compared to loops. The exercises on W3Schools were useful as they had the help there if you do get stuck. I did not finish all of the exercises so I will look at them later. 

A strength of today is that I did understand some of the JavaScript as some parts are similar to other programming languages. For example, the loops are similar to the ones in Small Basic so I could pick up that today. Also another strength is that I have improved my notes as I used bullet points to split up the information

Overall today has been very interesting learning all of the new terms and JavaScript however there is still a lot to learn and a lot to improve on.

11/9/2015 - Assignment 1

Aim: To understand the fundamentals of CSS

Most: Describe the different ways that CSS can be implemented

Today I learnt about the box model and the different parts of it. I had heard of the box model before but I was unsure on what it was. I never knew there was all the different parts to it. I also learnt about all the different selectors and how they work. I had never heard of selectors but when I saw what they were I understood them. 

To improve I would have liked to made my notes a bit more clear next time so I can easily read them and find what I'm looking for. Next time I will split all of the information up and highlight the main parts. I would also use bullet points for easily noting down the information.

A strength of today was learning about using the box model in CSS. I was not sure about using margins and borders but now I understand about how it works and I am more confident when using it.

Overall today has been very interesting and I have learnt a lot about CSS, the box model and selectors. I believe that my CSS skills are improving and I understand more.

08/09/15 - New unit

Aim: To be able to create a web page using HTML and CSS

Objectives
All: Complete pre-unit survey
All: Copy folder structure into own area
All: Create the content of a web page using HTML
All: Use CSS to create basic styles for the web page
All: Write a blog entry about today

Most: Created a web page using HTML 5 and at least two different CSS positioning styles.

Some: Create a professional looking web page using HTML 5 and a variety of CSS positioning styles

Today we started off with the new unit that is Client Customization of web pages. We had to try and design a website similar to the one that we were given. This was useful to remember about writing HTML and CSS as I could not remember too much. I learnt today about putting a different colour around text and images in CSS. It was very useful to know and it will help me in the future. 

I would like to improve on my CSS skills so I can do more such as adding in quotes and adding in images. I did a bit confused however I did start to understand it but I would like to improve on it. A strength of today was revising my HTML skills as I could not remember too much. 

Overall today has been useful and I have learnt many things about CSS and I feel more confident with using it.
